Louise Nevelson response- "Coin Collection"

This piece speks to the order that Nevelson carried hroughout her work. As Nevelson would gather random materials from garbage and arrange them in a way that unifies them, I contradict that.
Instead of painting the coins all the same color in order to unify them, I let their backgrounds come to light by leaving them in their original state only allowing time to dictate their aesthetic appearance.
I believe the coins' backgrounds to be stronger than those qualities which unifies them.

Nevelson's installations for the most part, hinted at being doors. The way these coins are arranged, appeals to that. The fact that there is a missing coin indicates that a 'door' has been opened, inviting the viewer to seek a deeper through; to look beyond the face of each coin.

Nevelson arranged her gathered objects in an orderly fashion and I translated that in the order in which these coins are organized.
