This performance is about trust. Trusting the universe to provide you with the right obstacles. I blindfolded myself and walked around the room with a goal in mind; walking through the door.
My friend, his part was to place wood planks in front of my feet and move them as I walked. The challenge he faced was that he was to guide me through the door in 3 minutes. My challenge, follow his path.
I trusted him with setting a path for me and he trusted me with following it. Sometimes in life, though we may feel like we're in control, we must understand that there are certain things we can't control. The universe sets forth obstacles in our path, it is up to us to overcome them.
Trust.
Mateo, your performance was interesting in the sense of putting yourself into this physical exercise and at the same time this "game" or "challenge" where you are blind and you have no reference of what is happening in the floor. You just know that you have this pieces of wood that every single time you touch you decide to move to an opposite direction. But I am trying to analyze the piece: are you just trying to scape from every single boundary you feel when touching the wood?
ResponderEliminarI remember during the live performance at school you would sometimes jump out of the obstacle instead of changing your direction: why you decided not do that in this video? What would have meant if your partner would have put the pieces of wood at your chest level? How does this changes meaning?
Overall I feel the performance has a great potential to something deeper. You are a great analyzer in class, so keep digging into this topic :).
Thank you first of all. Yes, there are several elements in this performance that I am reconsidering. I feel as this piece progresses and I along with it, the theme of trust seems to unfold. I am trusting my partner to guide me, to show me the way by creating a path for me.
EliminarMy original intent was to create a metaphor for the obstacles we encounter in life, however, I myself don't perceive this message clearly. Perhaps adding different obstacles, more challenging that is, may allude to this idea.
Maybe I'm past this idea and that of trust which I mentioned is what pertains to this performance. I will continue experimenting and "playing". I too feel this can be pushed and made into something deeper. Thank you again.
